THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR THREE SERIES FOR THE 2012-2013 SEASON

“Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural” to Return Next Season

The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit ARROW, its top-rated drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.  All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit ARROW and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do ARROW, SUPERNATURAL, and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

One of the true breakout hits of the season, ARROW posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil).  Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27

The Winchester brothers of SUPERNATURAL will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season.  Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

OH SIT!, The CW’s amped-up, fast-paced version of musical chairs, will return for a second season Monday, April 15, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ETTHE CARRIE DIARIES will conclude its 13-episode first season the previous week, Monday, April 8, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET.

OH SIT! is a fun, high-stakes, high-octane musical chairs competition, in which 12 thrill-seeking daredevils race head-to-head through five physically demanding, chair-splitting obstacle course-style eliminations as they each compete to claim a chair – all to the sounds of a new live house band.  At the end of the hour, only one contestant will be left sitting triumphant to seize the cash prize and the title of OH SIT! champion.  This season, the show will feature new obstacles and bridges, water rounds, mechanical rounds and slick zones.

OH SIT! is hosted by Jamie Kennedy (“The Ghost Whisperer”) and actress/television host Jessi Cruickshank (“MTV Live”).  Adding to the fun, Tanika Ray (“Extra”) will be in the trenches with the contestants both on and off the track, and will add color commentary from the sidelines as the action unfolds.

Airing Wednesday, March 20 at 8/7c on The CW, the episode features the long-awaited opening of Oliver Queen’s Starling City nightclub.

THE HUNT is an intense wilderness competition taking place over one month, as 12 teams of two are provided no food, water, or shelter, but must compete in a game where they’ll rely on their physicality, survival skills, and hunting skills to endure their conditions, capture one another, and ultimately win a huge cash prize.  Executive produced by David Garfinkle (“Ready for Love”), Jay Renfroe (“Ready for Love”) and Greg Goldman (“Ready for Love”), THE HUNT is from Renegade 83 and Blackbird Television in association with Warner Horizon Television.

PERFECT SCORE puts a unique twist on dating game shows by not only giving players a chance to win a date, but also the opportunity to win cold hard cash — IF they can successfully identify their perfect match.  In each half-hour episode, two friends compete to see who can pick their ideal mate from a group of 12 prospective singles, after both the players and the contestants have taken compatibility tests.  These tests are used to assign cash values to each possible match, and the player who selects the most compatible single – with the highest cash value – wins the cash prize and the date!  Created and executive produced by Scott St. John (“America’s Got Talent,” “Deal or No Deal,”), PERFECT SCORE is from FremantleMedia North America (“American Idol,” “The X Factor,” “America’s Got Talent”).
