The CW Strategically Sets Fall Launch for Early October

NEW YORK – May 17, 2012 – The CW Network presented its 2012-13 broadcast schedule today to advertisers, affiliates and national media at the New York City Center in New York City. Hip-hop star Flo Rida opened the show with a medley of his top hits, featuring the world premiere of his newest song, “Let it Roll (Good Times).”

“One of our biggest priorities this year at The CW was adding more original programming, and we’ve added 50 original hours to our schedule in 2012,” said Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “With dynamic new dramas for the fall and midseason, and our first-ever summer schedule leading into our October fall launch, this is poised to be a transformative season for The CW.

“The dramas we have for next season are outstanding, with relatable characters and breakout stars. ARROW, starring Stephen Amell in the title role, is a bold, edge-of-your-seat action show, based on the popular DC Comics character; EMILY OWENS, M.D. is funny, emotional, and we have caught lightning in a bottle with an incredible lead actor in Mamie Gummer; BEAUTY AND THE BEAST takes a classic love story and adds a procedural element; ‘The Carrie Diaries,’ with the story of a young Carrie Bradshaw set in the 1980s, is perfect for our audience; and CULT is a chilling psychological thriller. We have an unbelievable variety of high quality dramas, all speaking to the 18-to-34-year old audience, set for next season.”

The CW will plan to strategically rollout its new fall season starting in early October 2012. Specific dates to be announced at a later time.

Rachel Bilson leads a stellar ensemble cast in this fish-out-of-water comedic drama about small-town living, big-city attitudes and complicated love triangles. Set in the lovely town of BlueBell, Alabama, where the neighbors take care of one another, the mailman knows your name, there’s a parade every Tuesday…and people still aren’t quite used to Dr. Zoe Hart. HART OF DIXIE — it’s where you want to be. Rachel Bilson as Zoe Hart, Jaime King as Lemon Breeland, Wilson Bethel as Wade Kinsella, Cress Williams as Lavon Hayes, Tim Matheson as Brick Breeland and Scott Porter as George Tucker. 9:00-10:00 P.M. EMILY OWENS, M.D.

At long last, Emily Owens feels like she is an actual grown-up. She can finally put her high school days as the geeky-girl-with-flop-sweats behind her; she’s graduated from medical school and is now a first-year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital, where she’ll have the chance to work with world-famous cardiologist Dr. Gina Beckett – and where, not-so-coincidentally, her med-school crush Will Rider is also an intern. So why does everyone keep warning her that the hospital is just like high school? Emily soon finds out the hard way – her high school nemesis, the gorgeous, popular Cassandra Kopelson, is also just starting out at Denver Memorial, and it seems like they’re rivals all over again – not only as surgical interns, but for Will’s attention. Fellow intern Tyra Granger warns Emily that the cliques at Denver Memorial are all too familiar: the jocks have become orthopedic surgeons; the mean girls are in plastics; the rebels are in the ER, and Tyra has her own awkward place as the principal’s kid – her father is the chief resident. Emily’s the new kid all over again, and it’s just as awkward as high school. Only this time around, Emily will have to balance the personal and emotional turmoil of social politics with the high-stakes world of life-and-death medical decisions. At least she has fellow intern Tyra and nerdy-but-cute resident Micah, to count on as friends. Emily is growing to realize that although she may be a geek, she may also grow to be a great doctor, flop sweats and all. The series stars Mamie Gummer as Emily, Justin Hartley as Will, Michael Rady as Micah, Aja Naomi King as Cassandra, Kelly McCreary as Tyra and Necar Zadegan as Gina. EMILY OWENS, M.D. is from CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Jennie Snyder Urman (90210, “Lipstick Jungle”), Dan Jinks (“Pushing Daisies,” “Milk”) and Bharat Nalluri (“Tsunami”). The pilot was directed by Bharat Nalluri.

WEDNESDAY

8:00-9:00 P.M. ARROW After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine. THURSDAY

8:00-9:00 P.M. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

Based on the best-selling book series, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the story of two vampire brothers, obsessed with the same gorgeous girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town. In season one, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons. Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved — in 1864. Damon, on the other hand, was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago. In the explosive season finale, Elena’s uncle set a plan in motion that saw the return of the vengeful Katherine Pierce. In season two, Katherine’s appearance and her precise manipulation threw a wrench into the love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon. Stefan and Damon later faced their greatest challenge yet — the arrivals of Elijah and Klaus, two of the powerful “original” vampires. Season three revealed the history of Klaus and The Original Family, as well as the surprising friendship Klaus and his sister Rebekah shared with Stefan decades earlier — until Klaus compelled Stefan to forget they’d ever met. In the present day, Klaus’ return led to Stefan’s descent back to his violent “Ripper” ways. Elena and Damon worked together to bring Stefan back from the edge, even as they struggled with the guilt of their growing bond. Meanwhile, Klaus found himself irresistibly drawn to Caroline Forbes, forcing Caroline’s boyfriend, Tyler Lockwood, to break his sire bond to Klaus and claim Caroline as his own. Finally, the life of Alaric Saltzman, Elena and Jeremy’s trusted teacher and guardian, took a terrifying turn when Klaus’ mother, Esther, used witchcraft and Bonnie’s unwilling help to turn Alaric into a powerful vampire who hunts down and destroys other vampires – the ultimate vampire hunter. Season Four begins with the knowledge that everything is changing. As Elena and her friends enter into the final stretch of high school before graduation sends them off on different paths, their bond to their home town of Mystic Falls takes on a deeper meaning when a new villain seems intent on destroying it. The series stars Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert, Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore, Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore, Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert, Kat Graham as Bonnie Bennett, Candice Accola as Caroline Forbes, Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan, Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood and Joseph Morgan as Klaus. Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson (“Scream,” “Dawson’s Creek”), Julie Plec (“Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (GOSSIP GIRL, “Private”) and Bob Levy (GOSSIP GIRL, “Privileged”).

9:00-10:00 P.M. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier, Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn’t an animal that attacked the assassins…it was human. Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually still alive and that it was he who saved her many years before. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society, Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years to guard his secret – when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Catherine agrees to protect his identity in return for any insight he may have into her mother’s murder. Thus begins a complex relationship between Catherine and Vincent, who are powerfully drawn to each other yet understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them. The series stars Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville,” “Chuck”) as Catherine, Jay Ryan (“Terra Nova”) as Vincent, Max Brown (“The Tudors,” “MI-5”) as Evan, Nina Lisandrello (“Nurse Jackie”) as Tess, Nicole Gale Anderson (“Make It or Break It”) as Heather, Austin Basis (“Life Unexpected”) as J.T., and Brian White (“The Shield,” “The Cabin in the Woods”) as Joe. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is from CBS Television Studios with executive producers Jennifer Levin (“Without A Trace,” “Felicity”), Sherri Cooper (“Brothers and Sisters”), Bill Haber (“Rizzoli & Isles,” “Thurgood”), Paul J. Witt (“A Better Life”) & Tony Thomas (“A Better Life”), Ron Koslow (“Moonlight”) and Gary Fleder (“Life Unexpected”).

CULT

Investigative journalist Jeff Sefton has learned to laugh off his brother Nate’s relentless string of obsessions, especially his latest rant that a hit TV show intends to harm him. However, when his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff takes Nate’s paranoia seriously, and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV show “Cult” and its rabid fans. The only person who seems willing to help Jeff with his investigation is Skye, a young research assistant for “Cult,” who has also started to grow suspicious of the increasingly dark happenings surrounding the show. The fictitious show, centered on the cat-and-mouse game between charismatic cult leader Billy Grimm and LAPD detective Kelly Collins, has become an obsession for its viewers – and now some of its devotees seem to be taking their fixation to deadly extremes in the real world. As Jeff and Skye dig deeper into the fan world, they discover that the gruesome plot twists on television are much more than fantasy for some very unfortunate people. The hardcore fans of “Cult” would kill to see what happens next… The series stars Matt Davis (“The Vampire Diaries”) as Jeff Sefton, Jessica Lucas (“Melrose Place,” “Cloverfield”) as Skye Yarrow, Alona Tal (SUPERNATURAL, “The Killing”) as Kelly Collins and Robert Knepper (“Prison Break,” “Shameless”) as Billy Grimm. BURBANK, CA – April 6, 2011 – With the help of The CW’s AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, Ford Motor Company is kicking off its 17th year of working with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help awareness and support the fight against breast cancer.

THE CW AND FORD PARTNER TO GIVE AWAY ONE 2012 FORD FOCUS EACH NIGHT DURING THE WEEK OF APRIL 4

Stars Enter “The CW SHOWRoom” On-Air to Learn About the New Ford Focus,

Give Sneak Previews of What’s Coming Up on The CW,

and Show Viewers How to Win

The CW and Ford have formed a strategic marketing partnership, The CW SHOWroom, giving viewers a chance to win a new 2012 Ford Focus each night of The CW’s primetime, beginning Monday, April 4, through Friday, April 8.  The CW will create custom commercials for an unprecedented, week-long campaign featuring stars from the network’s shows, including GOSSIP GIRL, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and 90210.  The spots will air each night that week, and viewers can watch to learn how to enter to win a new Ford Focus, see sneak previews of upcoming episodes of The CW shows, and get an up-close look at the all-new Ford Focus.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Ford for their global launch of the 2012 Focus and create the biggest program to date for The CW Network,” said Alison Tarrant, Executive Vice President, Integrated Sales and Marketing.  “For the first time, we are featuring talent from across our network’s primetime schedule to interact directly with the brand.  This is a really exciting partnership for us; we are proud of the entertaining co-branded creative and the opportunity to give our fans the chance to win new Ford Focuses and get sneak peeks of the final episodes of their favorite shows.”

Each weeknight beginning April 4, The CW will air branded Ford Focus spots including stars: Michael Steeger (90210), Tika Sumpter (GOSSIP GIRL), Robert Buckley (ONE TREE HILL), Nigel Barker (AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL), Sara Rue (SHEDDING FOR THE WEDDING), Katerina Graham (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) and Cassidy Freeman (SMALLVILLE).  Viewers need to watch The CW each night to find out how to enter to win a 2012 Ford Focus.  One Ford Focus will be given away to one winner on each of the five nights of the sweepstakes.

Customized for each night of the campaign, the longform ads showcasing the sweepstakes will feature The CW stars giving special previews of what’s coming up on their shows, as a Ford product specialist – and very enthusiastic CW fan – shows them all the features of the brand new Ford Focus.  As part of the partnership, Ford Focus brand messaging will also be carried across The CW on-air, online, and on mobile for the full week, with special night opens and billboards on-air each night.

“The all-new 2012 Focus has so many class-leading advanced features and content that it is hard to capture in a traditional 30 second ad,” said Crystal Worthem, Ford’s Brand Content & Alliance manager.  “This new and creative collaboration with the CW is allowing the new Ford Focus to fully communicate its attributes to a younger, more connected consumer in a more engaging and relevant way.”

The CW and Ford partnership continues in the April 6 episode of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. The models are teaming up with Ford Warriors in Pink to help raise awareness and work toward a cure for breast cancer.  The relationship will be integrated into the entire episode and garner support through a print campaign for the 2011 Warriors in Pink line of apparel.  Ford is a 17-year partner of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and has dedicated more than $110 million to the breast cancer cause.

Beginning Monday, April 11, viewers can also see more sneak previews from The CW stars of what’s coming up this season online at www.CWTV.com/fordfocus.

MICHAEL ROSENBAUM RETURNS AS LEX LUTHOR FOR THE SMALLVILLE SERIES FINALE

Michael Rosenbaum will reprise his role as Lex Luthor in the series finale of SMALLVILLE on Friday, May 13 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET.)

“I’m delighted to return for the series finale,” says Rosenbaum.  “I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made SMALLVILLE the great success it is.  I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats.  Ha ha.  I can’t wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again.  Oh, and for Lex to become the badass he’s destined to be.”

Executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders added, “It feels like the stars are aligning, literally.  We couldn’t be more excited about having Michael back.  And as far as the way he returns, there’ll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent’s life.  He is the villain of the story.”

Rosenbaum exited at the end of season seven after Lex confronted Clark (Tom Welling) in the Fortress of Solitude.  Years of secrets came to a head as Clark’s former friend finally discovered the truth about Clark’s alien heritage.  The rivalry between the two culminated into a final showdown and crumbled, literally, under an icy avalanche as the Fortress fell.  Lex’s body was never found.  Now, Lex has risen from the ashes to fulfill his place in destiny as Clark Kent’s greatest nemesis.

SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters.  Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins, Joe Davola and Tom Welling.  The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television.  SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
