The Cast and Crew of The Vampire Diaries Answer Fan Questions

Kat Graham, Steven R. McQueen, Michael Trevino, Joseph Morgan (“Klaus”), Daniel Gillies (Elijah) and Executive Producer Julie Plec from The Vampire Diaries gathered in LA yesterday for a Q & A session.

What spurred the decision for deaths in the final episodes?

In light of many online rumors, Julie Plec revealed that there will be an influential death toll at the end of this season. She cautiously admitted that, “There will be some severe consequences, and loss of life will occur, however there is no number value that can be attached.” She went on to state, “For Vampire shows, the stakes are high.” While no names were given, it’s certain that the season finale will be shocking!

Were the relationships between Damon and Stefan, and Klaus and Elijah originally intended to mirror each other?

According to Julie Plec, “It was certainly done on purpose. At its core, this show is about family and the love that results from these complex relationships.” For actors Daniel Gillies (Elijah) and Joseph Morgan (Klaus) this has offered a challenge in figuring out whether they are more like Damon or Stefan. Daniel Gillies admitted, “We both have our own identities, but it’s too difficult to say.”

Tell us how you feel about Bonnie’s character this season?

Kat Graham was honored to express her love for Bonnie. “They gave her such a vulnerable perspective which really shows her weaknesses and strengths.” With regards to Bonnie’s relationship with Jeremy, she’s very happy with the way things have turned out. Nudging Steven R. McQueen only helped get the message across.

Can you tease anything else about the finale?

“From the beginning of this season, Stefan has urged Damon to realize how far his feelings have come. With Katherine back in the mix, his progress has been somewhat halted. The finale will explore Damon’s emotions.” He seeks closure with Katherine, he seeks Elena’s forgiveness, he seeks reconciliation with his brother Stefan, yet nothing will come without a price. With all hands on deck, the season finale of The Vampire Diaries will certainly throw some twists in the mix. Get ready for a bumpy ride!

“Hellcats” Star Aly Michalka Dishes on the Marti/Professor Hookup

Aly Michalka discusses Marti and Julian’s budding relationship this season on Hellcats.  Even though there’s the obvious age difference and inherent taboo that comes with this kind of relationship (a student?!  And a professor?!), Aly points out that “there’s a lot of heart between Julian and Marti’s relationship.  She’s an intelligent girl and a lot more mature than you think she is, especially for her age.  It makes sense that she would be attracted to an older man like Julian.”

THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR FIVE SERIES FOR THE 2011-2012 SEASON

For the First Time Ever, “America’s Next Top Model” to Feature All-Stars from Past Cycles for the Fall Edition

“The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl,” “90210” and “Supernatural” Also to Return Next Season

The CW Network has given early pickups to five of its established series for next season, including an All-Star Cycle of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and the network’s top-rated drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.  All five shows will return in Fall 2011.

With AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL ordered for both cycles next season, The CW’s signature reality series will kick-off the Fall with its first-ever All-Star Edition, featuring the models who became breakout characters and who had the most memorable stories from past cycles.  Additional details about the cast, judges and prizes for the All-Star cycle of TOP MODEL will be announced at a later time.

The CW’s bloodily addictive hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES was also given an early renewal, and in its sophomore season, remains the network’s most-watched show (4.0 million viewers) and the network’s number-one show among its target audience of women 18-34 (2.9/9).

Also given early pickups for next season are The CW’s scandalous guilty pleasures GOSSIP GIRL, the network’s second most popular series with women 18-34 (2.8/7), and 90210, which posts some of TV’s largest percent increases from DVR playback, more than doubling its women 18-34 live ratings once live+7 data is included.

The network also renewed fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, which enters its seventh season next year.   In moving to Fridays last September, SUPERNATURAL immediately helped make The CW more competitive on the night and dramatically contributed to year-to-year gains on Friday of 66% in adults 18-34 and 60% in viewers.

Padalecki and Ackles are also ever-present in the Blu-ray™ and DVD enhanced content. The SUPERNATURAL co-stars provide a video introduction to each of the 22 anime episodes, and are also featured in a series of interviews that include conversations with live-action series creator Eric Kripke, and SUPERNATURAL: THE ANIME SERIES directors Shigeyuki Miya and Atsuko Ishizuka.

Aly Michalka, AJ Michalka, Heather Hemmens, Matt Barr, Robbie Jones and Executive Producer Kevin Murphy from Hellcats gathered in LA yesterday and answered some of YOUR fan questions!

The Cast as Cheerleaders and Using Stunt Doubles

The cast uses stunt doubles because of the danger involved in many of the cheer scenes, but they’ve learned how to do these tricks for real.  Executive Producer Kevin Murphy explains that they still use doubles because it’s not safe for the cast to be doing the tricks themselves because of the extreme danger in competitive cheerleading.  “When we do double them, we’re actually getting the ‘realies,’ as we call them up into their position and when we get to the wide shots, we’re using the doubles.”  He adds, “The reason the routines look so good is because [the cast] has done the hard work required to actually learn them on their own.”

Marti and Dan or Marti and the Professor?

In terms of a character choice, Aly prefers Dan and Marti together.  “It’s the fact that you get really attached to these characters and start to want certain things for the characters.  You want Marti and Dan to have that relationship, those two perfect yin and yang to each other.”  With the professor, there’s a maturity and it’s a bit taboo which brings a bit of sexiness to this relationship.  While she’s younger than him, Marti is mature for her age, so there’s this connection on an intellectual level.  Matt chimed in to stick up for his character, Dan, noting that while the professor is older and intellectual, Dan is much more exciting, being younger, raw and passionate.  He adds, “Plus, Dan’s a great kisser!”

Aly and AJ: As Sister and Castmates

They’ve performed together before (they’re currently in a band together, 78violet) but this is the first time they’ve acted together on the show.  They have a very close sibling relationship, so close that Matt added “I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that is as in sync as you guys are.  The way you finish each other’s sentences.  ESP exists and you guys have got it.”

On Kissing Your Costars

How do the Hellcats prepare themselves for kissing scenes?

Heather said that “after the first or second time, it really becomes something so insignificant to your thought process and preparing for the scene.  It’s something you get used to really fast.”  But Robbie remembers the first time they were shooting a kissing scene with Heather and how nervous they were.  But after shooting this over several hours, “it just becomes autopilot and your lips go and your mind’s gone.”  Aly adds that it’s not a big deal anymore, since “everybody has already kissed somebody [in the cast].”

The Ford Warriors in Pink campaign recognizes the strength and courage it takes to face the challenges of fighting breast cancer 365 days a year, and The CW’s AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will be joining the campaign to help raise awareness in an episode airing Wednesday, April 6 (8:00-9:00p.m. ET/PT).
