Everyone is talking about Second Life’s complement to the CW Network’s new hit television show GOSSIP GIRL Fans of the show, which follows the lives of privileged prep school teens on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, have been pouring into the virtual world through the network’s website since the region opened in September.

Built by Warner Brothers and the CW Network in partnership with Millions of Us in partnership with Warner Brothers and the CW Network, the region is a beautiful build-out of seven square blocks of the Upper East Side, complete with show sets, stores, and other iconic landmarks. Unique to the sim is that viewers without Second Life accounts can sign up directly through the CW Network’s website and receive a special GOSSIP GIRL last name.
When new residents arrive, they are greeted and assisted by agents of Metaverse Mod Squad. Easily identified in their retro black coats and white boots, these agents keep a watchful eye out for disruptions, moderate the burgeoning GOSSIP GIRL group, and even host rooftop parties and fashion shows.
The region’s cornerstone activity involves the Gossip Mobile!, a PDA-shaped heads-up display that enhances the Second Life experience. When worn, the HUD detects other avatars in the vicinity and allows the wearer to gossip about them and rate them with style and cool points.
GOSSIP GIRL airs on the CW Network on Wednesday nights at 8/7c. It is based on a series of young-adult novels by Cecily von Ziegesar. To find out more about how to join GOSSIP GIRL in second life, visit the Upper East Side welcome site.
